The 80’s are back

October 25, 2009 6 comments

I haven’t really done much in a “physical” kind of way this weekend but i did quite a few different kind of things.

Ok watch this :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_3g_yf1vzI

The video is so 80’s it hurts. The singer’s GREEN suit makes me want to rip my eyes out, and then all of a sudden… CHILDREN EVERYWHERE!! Just fantastic.  Great song though, and definitely in my top 10 80’s songs of all time. They don’t make songs or videos like these anymore.

I also wanted to go and vote for the Democratic Party representative for the next primary elections in Italy, but I realised I still haven’t got my new electoral card because i’ve changed city of residence. A bit angry but what could I have done.

Another thing i did this weekend was find all the films with Bill Murray that I haven’t watched and then ofcourse proceed to host myself a Bill Murray Film marathon (if two films can be considered a marathon).

Those two films were “Caddyshack” , still maintaining that 80’s feel. It was ok, nothing spectacular. One of those 80’s fun films with Chevy Chase. Bill had a relatively minor role but it was quite funny. Loved the way he kept his lips kind of deformed throughout the whole movie, to give his character that weird accent.

The second film was “Rushmore“. A more recent (1998) movie, and also a tad more serious than caddyshack. It gave me a weird vibe to start off with, somwhat like the vibe i felt when I saw “Step Brothers” for the first time. You’ll know what I mean if you’ve seen any of these two movies. In the end it was actually a very entertaining movie and it ends well which is always nice.

I have to say though that my favourite Bill Murray movie was and still is Groundhog Day, followed closely by Lost in Translation. Actually that reminds me of the funniest clip ever in Lost in translation, where Bill is in the hospital waiting room with an old japanese man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SntLhQLIfVE (could only find it in italian but it’s still understandable and funny, check out the ladies in the background..it’s so improvised.

On other news my back started hurting again, i’m just praying it’s not my hernia acting up again…

I bet there’s still tons of bill murray movies out there and i’m sure i’ll watch some more of them (Next on the list is “Where The Buffalo Roam“, which is supposed to be what they based Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: bookworms don’t flame me!, and where Johnny Depp based his character from)

Time to go

Antique raid!

September 8, 2009 Leave a comment

This Sunday my girlfriend brought me to the antique market in Aviano. We spent the whole day trying to find something that stood out of the heap.

I found a beautiful LIP pocketwatch from the early 1900’s. The quadrant is pretty basic and quite abused, but the movements are in exceptional order and are a beauty to watch.

I’ve always had a passion for pocketwatches, since I was a small kid. I can now finally express this passion into a hobby and i’ll make sure I try and find other similar bargains. What i’m aimning for at the moment is a nice american pocketwatch. Either a Hamilton or an Illinois. I don’t want to buy them from ebay. I’d love to find a bargain at some antique market or fair.

Lets get back to the LIP I found. I can’t seem to find an exact date for it. The only thing I found out is that it’s marked on the inside backcover with 393. I think this means the diameter is 39mm and that it is given a mark of 3 out of 5 for it’s movement precision which is discrete.

It is of french manufacture, and LIP have been making watches since the 1800’s up to today.

Enough technical talk…

My girlfriend found two beautiful necklaces, and sent me the pic for the one she likes best.

Here are the photos. Oh and btw, these photos made me realise I need a serious camera… the pics, even with the macro setting, are a crock of shite.

UFC 101 Anderson Silva

August 31, 2009 2 comments

I finally caught up with my missed UFC fight night last week.

Anderson Silva is my absolute favourite fighter ever. He is a master of Muay Thai and also very underestimated with his ground Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

He was criticised in his last two fights because they weren’t spectacular but it wasn’t his fault.

He is so good, that Dana White has decided to make him fight in the upper weight category, against the ex light heavyweight champion of the UFC, Forrest Griffin.

He put an ex champion to shame, making him look like a newbie to the sport. Here’s the video so you can all see that Anderson Silva is indeed, an alien. Or in the matrix.

He is in his own league… Makes one ask himself how far we can push the guy with weird matchups… I hope they never make him fight that fatty Brock Lesnar.

Finally!

August 16, 2009 3 comments

It was about time eh?!?!?! I have finally settled down into my new home.

Holidays are over and tomorrow I start my new job…

I’m somewhat scared… I don’t know anyone I will work with, I only know a small outline of what I will be doing, meeting new people, organising my new desk, learning a lot of new things.

It’s all going to be very difficult in these coming weeks. Nonetheless i’m also quite happy about all these changes. I’m excited that i’m finally living alone again since Uni, and also about all the new things i’m going to learn.

During these holidays I stayed  with my wonderful girlfriend Gloria. We mostly stayed in our hometown but we went to the seaside about an hour and a half away for a few days. We stayed 3 days in Bibione and 1 day in Lignano Sabbiadoro. I finally baked my translucent skin, and it became sizzling red in about 5 minutes after exposure to the sun (see photos).

I learned that i can make my eyes roll outwards after 23 years. And I found another interesting insect which I photographed. I’m pretty sure it’s a cricket though!

Ohhhhh I almost forgot! I bought an Iphone, and i’m on the internet through my computer thanks to it which is pretty cool. I’ll soon get a decent connection I promise.

So… this was a very small recap and i’ll try and upload some photos, hopefully my phone won’t explode in the process.

More to come soon, including wallpaper of the week and photos of my new appartment!!!

Over and out!

Wallpaper Weekly

August 1, 2009 Leave a comment

Time for this week’s wallpapers. I chose to put some random papers that I quite like recently.

Some are psychedelic, some cartoony, some just beautiful.

I love the one with the butterflies.

The zelda one is amazing, reminds me of the huge amounts of time spent playing that game when i was small, and it makes for an extremely geeky/beautiful wallpaper.

So here they are:

Unfortunately this will be one of my last posts for a month or so. This is because i’m leaving for Veneto today, towards my new house and new job. This means that i won’t have internet access for a while. I’ll update when i’ll get a decent internet connection!

Salutations and speak to you all soon!

Woooooo!

Illegal biking and a weird insect

July 29, 2009 2 comments

Today I decided it was time… I absolutely HAD to go for a nice motorbike ride with my Vespa. I had to see what it was really able to unleash before I leave for Veneto on friday.

That’s right. Veneto Banca has confirmed me indefinetly which is great news.  I’m moving to find a new house on the 1st of August so it’s all gonna be hectic in these next few weeks.

Anyway back to the Vespa… I went for a long “stroll”, illegal may I add, showing it off to all my friends.. and riding it was the best feeling i’ve had in a long time. It’s as if I went back to when I was 6 years old in Friuli. He used to carry me around with this exact same vespa and I was the happiest kid in town. I just think it’s impossible to describe how riding this Vespa makes me feel. You’ll all just have to come down here and try it for yourselves!!!

Here are some photos of me once more riding in my garden:

I’ll have to bring the Vespa to Veneto in September but luckily the bank will pay for the big van i’m thinking of borrowing for a weekend.

I also washed my car which was in dire need! That’s when i heard a little noise coming from closeby. It sounded like a cricket. I looked towards the wall and there it was!!!! It was a pretty amazing insect, about 5cm long with long antennae. It also had a pincer tail and these little, hard wings that it flapped to make the cricket sound.

If anyone knows what the hell it is please let me know because i’m really interested and it doesn’t look like a cricket because they use their legs to make sound not those wings on its back… Cool find eh? Here it is:

Crazy Weather!!

July 17, 2009 3 comments

I woke up this morning to a thunderstorm. During summer here in italy, it is common to have a few weeks of really hot weather and then BAM! a week of full on red alert thunderstorms.

I went to work as usual, but underestimated how wet rain really is, so i ended up soaked with my shoes making silly noises for the rest of the day.

The weather is stable now, at least no more thunders so my dog isn’t scared anymore.

Other than all that, i got told today that I am confirmed indefinetly at my new job, and that I will be starting in Treviso on the 17th of August. I got promoted by two levels too!

Real happy about everything at the moment!

Here’s an interesting few pictures i took coming back from work. This is a small port close to where i take the ferry boat on lake maggiore to get back home from work. It was full of debris that the storm took all the way into the lake. It looked like there was earth instead of water:
